  You may be able to make up your own mind, but many cannot on both the Left and the Right. So they follow whoever is most hysterical. And going back to the OP, the media plays a role in that. I don't love Trump - I think he would do a lot better if he would stop talking.

  Landy - there is most definitely hate directed at the Right. The whiners have some bewilderment caused by the media telling them the sky is falling. But there is hate from the Left and lots of it.

  DY - here we go again. Not everyone who supports Trimp is vile or full of hate. In your limited JW world I know it's easy to paint people with the evil brush. There is a lot more hate coming from the left now, both media and supporters.

  I know the news is biased on both sides, but all of the uproar about stupid shit, is tearing the country apart. At some point we are going to have to make peace, although all the name calling, instigated by the media, will not soon be forgotten. If the media doesn't stop with all the feigned offense to everything, Trump will get re-elected.

  I think the media - both sides have agendas that they insert into the coverage of "news". In another thread I posted quotes by Obama who said some pretty nasty things about Fox News and refused to talk to them. But when Trump refuses to talk to CNN it's because he's facist.

  Another Burnt Out Elder

  young elder(mid-thirties) in my congregation stepped down last night.

  nicest guy, with two lovely kids, a great supportive wife.. it got to be too much, as the other elders are practically useless, let him do all the hard work, while they did all the "important" stuff.

  literally ran him ragged.. he's still in good standing, gave the final prayer.

  After my dad stepped down as an elder, the CO constantly harassed him to be reappointed. Until one day he had enough, and I am told got into a yelling match with the CO at the back of the hall. My parents are still JWs but he will never be an elder again.

  Finding Peace in Older Age

  a cool sense of tranquility overtakes my troubled spirit.. i emerge slowly from a deeply entrenched, lifelong nightmare and proceed into gentle reverie, into quiet wakefulness.

  youthful ideals, embodied in vaporous form before me, are a black reminiscence, threatening to return as an untold want having neither name nor substance, only a niggling dig that skewers my soul.. i shut it out, shut out all the noise in the head: irrational thought, excessive thinking that leads to depression, to insanity.

  yet, i am hopeful that devils of the past are blocked approach to me by a portcullis that guards both heart and mind.. i see but darkly my amorphous reflection and sense it is a phantom, not the real me.

  Although your writings are more pleasing than mine, I agree wholeheartedly. I also think - who am I to ever have thought I could tell someone else the best way to live their life. What a waste - believing in a lie that I had all the answers. I am more comfortable now knowing I don't have to have all the answers, I don't have to be certain of anything, and I don't need to convince anyone of anything.❤️
